According to data from the application store analytics firm Sensor Tower, the total revenue of “Genshin Impact” on mobile platforms has surpassed $4.1 billion, equivalent to approximately 28 billion yuan RMB. Looking back at the game’s previous achievements, in 2021, “Genshin Impact” became the highest-grossing game in its first year of release. In 2022, the game’s total revenue successfully entered the top three globally, behind only Tencent’s “王者荣耀” and “PUBG Mobile.”
Notably, “Genshin Impact” has been in operation for over two years, yet it has managed to sustain a high revenue growth rate for an extended period. Compared to similar games, what specific advantages does “Genshin Impact” have?
Revenue increased by $1 billion within 8 months
Sensor Tower’s data shows that China remains the largest market for “Genshin Impact,” with an income of around $1.4 billion, accounting for 34.6% of total revenue. Japan ranks second, with an income of $960 million, accounting for 23.2% of total revenue. The United States and South Korea follow, with 16.4% (around $860 million) and 6.1% (around $250 million) of the total revenue, respectively.
In fact, in May 2022, the total revenue of “Genshin Impact” approached $3 billion. Eight months later, the game’s revenue increased by over $1 billion, reaching $4.1 billion. During this period, the game underwent six updates, moving from version 2.6 to 3.3. The 3.0 major version, “Dawn Brought by a Thousand Roses,” was launched on August 24, 2022, and added the “Niranjana” continent to the game, as well as introducing new five-star characters such as Tinari, Natsuhime, and Nayeet.
Sensor Tower statistics show that on the first day of the “Dawn Brought by a Thousand Roses” version’s global launch, revenue topped multiple countries’ game charts. Revenue from iOS mobile devices exceeded $12 million, with a growth rate more than three times that of “Cygames” game “Sakura Championship” ranked second.
In November 2022, the 3.2 version of “Genshin Impact” launched, introducing the “Crescent Moon” character Nanmizi and popular character Xiepeng. According to data from the mobile store analysis platform TapTap, daily revenue surged for three days after the launch of the second half of the card pool in the 3.2 version, peaking on November 4th with nearly $6.3 million in iOS revenue, setting a new record for “Genshin Impact” card pool revenue.
According to statistics by Cai Shuyue, “Genshin Impact” generated nearly 2.3 billion RMB in revenue within just two weeks after the 3.2 version’s second half card pool launched, breaking the previous record for card pool revenue.
In addition to its high revenue growth rate, “Genshin Impact” also boasts excellent user reviews and external popularity. Currently, the game has an average rating of 8.7 on the TapTap gaming community, with over 4.1 million users participating in the rating, and more than 2 million users giving the game a five-star rating.
