In November 2023, the global mobile app and mobile game intelligence platform Sensor Tower released the top ten list of global hot mobile games by revenue. Tencent’s “Warzone Mobile” once again topped the list with $193 million in revenue in November. It is worth noting that the data does not include income from third-party Android channels.
In November, “Genshin Impact” returned to the list, ranking second. In China’s iOS market, its revenue share reached 45.6%, while in Japan, it accounted for 22.4% of the revenue, and in the United States, 10.2%.
On November 8, “Genshin Impact” released version 4.2, updating the map and introducing new characters and items. These changes helped the game’s revenue rank rise to second place and it performed well on the revenue growth list.
In the top ten global mobile games by revenue in November, “Genshin Impact” performed exceptionally well. Although “Genshin Impact” had poor performance during the latter stages of the “Mount Mustapha” version, it returned to the top ten after the release of the “Fated Forest” version in early October. In September and October, the game ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.
“Genshin Impact” did not make it to the top ten global mobile games by revenue in November. This is the first time since its public test that the game has not made it to the top ten. After the full platform public test in late April, “Genshin Impact” quickly ranked second on the May revenue list and was crowned champion in June. In July to October, the game’s rankings were seventh, third, eighth, and fourth, respectively.
There were speculations that “Genshin Impact” contributed a significant portion of the revenue of “Star Rail” (shortened as “Star Iron”). However, the data from Sensor Tower’s store intelligence shows that the performance of “Star Iron” was swinging like a seesaw. In November, the income from the App Store channel decreased by 56% compared to October, while the Google Play channel’s income decreased by 55%. Conversely, “Genshin Impact” saw a 50% increase in income in the App Store channel and a 26% increase in the Google Play channel.
In the top ten global mobile games by revenue, Tencent’s “PUBG Mobile” (including the revenue from “Peace Elite”) ranked third with $143 million in revenue. In China’s iOS market, its revenue share reached 59.4%, while in the United States, it accounted for 8.8% of the revenue, and in Saudi Arabia, 3.1%.
The global top ten mobile games by revenue also included the presence of casual games, such as “Big Fortune Go!” and “Royal Match.” “Big Fortune Go!” became the highest downloaded game product globally in 2023 and the largest revenue-generating product in 2023. Since its release in 2021, “Royal Match” has generated over $600 million in revenue.
In November 2023, global mobile game players spent a total of $6.1 billion on App Store and Google Play, which was about the same as the previous year. The United States remained the highest revenue-generating market for mobile games globally, contributing $1.8 billion, accounting for 30.2% of the global total revenue. China’s iOS market ranked second, accounting for 19%, and the Japanese market ranked third, accounting for 15.5%.
